Yeah, I thought and I still believe Xubuntu is great. But my system have problems with it. Every time I shutdown my system, it crashes. Tried to troubleshoot, but can’t find help online even on the forums. The suggestion was to use the terminal to shutdown (which is working). But I don’t think I’ll stick to that.
Currently, I am researching about fluxbox , a windows manager for linux that is low on resources, fas, highly customizable, etc (as per other says). I am planning to use this one for my Ubuntu box. Have to do some research first for programs I can use in it.
I used to dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu 7.10 before. But due to my curiosity, I messed up with the Ubuntu box. So I formatted the linux partition. I was thinking what distro I am going to use. Something that is not too heavy for the low spec computer we have. I have talked to someone aboutLinuxmint, a distro derived from Ubuntu. But since it is running on KDE, it is a bit heavy for my system.
Then, I decided to settle down with Xubuntu. It uses Xfc, a low on resources, but powerful window manager for Linux. I installed it last Monday. Tested it, and everything is a bit faster than my Windows installation. Internet browsing is fast. Watching Youtube is okay. launching programs is fast.
Though I haven’t yet finished setting up my Xubuntu box (I also need to update the system), I am satisfied with it.
Leaving WinXP in the near future, I don’t think so. There are still programs that don’t run well with Linux. Stay on dual boot for the mean(long)time.
Cheers….

Yes, at last.. I was able to revive my blog here at www.marvincruz.com. And, lo, I was able to import my posts from my old/temporary blog site allforhim.legionhost.com.. Yeah, it is a feature of wordpress to import/export blogs.. but I didn’t tried it. Well, that’s the solution for my problems.. hehe.. don’t be afraid to try…
Now that I have my blogsite up and running again. I’ll be posting more frequently now..
God bless..
Soli Deo Gloria…
Yeah, that’s right, first dose of ‘actual’ networking (small).
Been dealing with computers for 9 years now. Built some, burnt some, fixed some, made money from it, wasted money sometimes. But this time, it is a breakthrough for me. “Networking”. The kind of stuff I am reading for the past few months now, but never really laid hand on it (on my own).

At last, after three agonizing days of troubleshooting, calling and talking to customer service of my ISP, at last, I am on line.
As it turnd out, the canopy that was first installed for my wireless internet was defective. But the person that installed it said that the problem was with the substation. I called in five times before I got an assurance that someone will come to my place to fix it. It was after I show irritation for the type of service that I have.
Then, the tech came at 6pm (Manila Time) and I would be going to work at 7:30. Thankfully, they were able to fix it within an hour. I wasn’t able to benchmark the connection coz I have to go to work. But based on my initial test (using speedtest.net my download speed is 288kbps and upload is 168 kbps. My ISP says they have 384kbps for my service (it’s not broadband, but it’s the best that i can get).
I think it’s okay. But I’ll be testing the connection on following days so i could know if it’s consistent.
At least now, I am on-line….
Yes, I had bought a new hard drive. A 160GB Hitachi IDE drive (why IDE, I am using an old AMD Duron computer).
Bought it last Saturday. I did the setup last Sunday. I am still not finish installing programs but at least, the computer is “working” now. All I need now is an internet connection.
Got to get back to work….

I’ve been eager to post this one, but due to some health and work concerns, I wasn’t able to do it…
But even if it is late, I’ll still announce that Wordpress, the one that powers this blog won the best open source social networking CMS last October at the Open Source Content Management System Award, 2007.
You can read about the news (and also other winners on other category) here, http://www.packtpub.com/award
It’s been a month now when my hard drive crashed. I haven’t yet bought a new one. Have no time and have other important things to spend money with (my son’s birthday). But eventhough I am in front of a computer 8 hours a day in my work, I still want my (technically it’s my wife’s) computer to be restored. So, after the upcoming occassion, I can now buy a new hard drive. Also, I am currently looking for an ISP. I am an internet addict without any internet connection. Another thing is, I ordered an Ubuntu 7.10. I am going to use this instead of windows. Well, I’ll still be keeping the windows but my in law will be using it.
I haven’t yet got any of those. So i have to wait till I have the opportunity to get it.

My blog is all about me. This is like a journal, an online diary. Yeah, most people hate reading blogs that only speakse about the owner of the blog. Well, this is my first time have a blog, so, i’m still trying to make this applicable and interesting to the general public.
But if you want to read a nice website, try clicking on one that is in my blogroll (at the right).
